By BEN CARDWELL – Under-19’s
IT was a round for huge margins in Round 8 of the Under 19s, with three teams winning by more than 140-points.
Albanvale’s poor luck has continued as they were on the end of a 289-point thrashing by Yarraville Seddon on Saturday. The Eagles kicked 44 goals with 16 different goalkickers, including a 10-goal bag from Kyle Blake and five goals to Jack Mason and Thomas Webster. Jason Johns kicked Albanvale’s only goal.
Altona also notched a big win at home, with a 145-point drubbing of St Albans. The Saints only managed one point, while the Viking’s Oliver Lanning led with six goals and the in-form Sam Paton was yet again amongst the best.
In Caroline Springs, Werribee Districts continued to put pressure on the top of the ladder with a comfortable 62-point win over the Lakers. Jessee Pattison and Rhys Dodemaide were some of the standouts for the Districts, while Alexander Spiropoulous and Jack Tarr carried over their form from last week for Caroline Springs even in a losing side.
Spotswood moved up the ladder at McLean Reserve with a 63-point win over the Suns. James Waters kicked three while Tyron Bennett and Darcy Wilson shined in the green and gold. James Sammut also continued his run of form, kicking three as well and making the best for Wyndham.
Hoppers Crossing jumped to fifth place on the ladder after a huge 152-point victory over the winless Wyndhamvale. The Warriors kicked eight goals in the third quarter as Lachlan Grant was able to back up his huge performance last week with an impressive seven goal outing.
Chase Guy continued his run of form for Hoppers Crossing, while usual standouts Tyler James and Jordan Montalto tried their best in a disappointing loss for the Falcons.
Albion also scored a win, after Newport Power forfeited.
Next week, Albion will host Caroline Springs in a middle-of-the-table clash, while the Suns will travel to Altona and Hoppers Crossing will play Newport at the Bryan Martin Oval.
Albanvale will look to minimise the damage when they play St Albans, and Werribee Districts will be keen for a big win over Wydhamvale.
Finally, in what could be the game of the round, Spotswood will take on Yarraville Seddon at home.
