THE second round of the 2017 season saw Jason Cloke lead the way once again for Parkside as they easily accounted for Sunshine Heights.
After dominating with nine goals in the first week, he continued his early form with another four goals as the ladder-leaders won by 36-points.
Inaccuracy in front of goal prevented the margin from being considerably higher, with Parkside kicking 12 goals and 19 behinds. Complimenting Cloke was Aaron Gauci and Brent Kelly with two majors each.
Parkside’s start to the new year has been ominous with their attacking abilities the primary factor in their success.
In just two games, they have managed 68 scoring shots and they don’t look like slowing down any time soon.
For Sunshine Heights it’s back to the drawing board after consecutive losses and a lack of options up forward. Their eight goals came from just three players which highlights a definite need to unearth alternative targets.
Tarneit also went two for two with an impressive 48-point victory against Sanctuary Lakes at Featherbrook Reserve.
The Sharks were fast out of the blocks, kicking two goals to none in the first stanza but only managed another five goals after quarter time. Thomas Robertson starred for Tarneit as did Aaron Molivas and Thomas Weybury, while Jesse Bruce was best on for the Sharks.
The win sees Tarneit neck and neck with Parkside as both teams head into Round 3 undefeated.
Elsewhere the Wyndham Suns had a big win over Laverton to the tune of 73-points. After besting Braybrook in the opening round, the Suns were simply too classy and dangerous for the Magpies, leading at every change.
They had scoring options aplenty, with Steven Neralic (six), Daniel Hovey (five) and Rhys Kirk (three) all contributing to the important victory. Wyndham now moves on to a massive clash with ladder-leader Parkside this Saturday.
TITANS SCORE IMPRESSIVE WIN OVER SHARKS
By BEN CARDWELL – Division 3 Reserves
ROUND 2 of the Division 3 Reserves saw three very clinical wins for the season’s emerging leaders.
The commemoration ceremony and traditional Last Post was a solemn affair at Sanctuary Lakes before the bounce on Saturday, but the home crowd certainly wasn’t given much to cheer about even after play was underway.
Tarneit got out to a blistering start early on, kicking eight goals in the first quarter while affording the Sharks just a solitary behind. It was great day for the Titans’ big key forwards Rick Hutton and Sam Ingham, as the midfield repeatedly honoured good leads thanks to clean possession off the halfback line.
Sanctuary Lakes looked competitive at times in close contests, but sloppy usage out of the back line and into their forward half made life difficult for their attacking players. Repeatedly, Tarneit locked down defensively across half back, putting tight pressure on and allowing them clean forward entries. It wasn’t until the final quarter that Sanctuary Lakes kicked their only two goals, as Tarneit’s ran away to a 122-point win.
In Laverton, Wyndham backed up their big Round 1 win with another big margin, this time against the hapless Magpies. Tyson Szkudlarski claimed another bag of six to add to his tally as efficient goal kicking allowed the Suns to kick 25 goals and win by 124 points.
Over at Sunshine Heights, Parkside held the Dragons at bay to win with a respectful 33-point margin.
Sunshine struggled to put on scoreboard pressure in the first half and Parkside’s five goal third quarter put them in a comfortable position despite being outscored by the Dragons in the final term.
Round 2’s final game will be played on Anzac Day at Pennell reserve, as Braybrook and North Sunshine will look to cement a win on the auspicious day.
Next week, the undefeated Wyndham and Parkside will do battle, while North Sunshine and Laverton will look to set their season up further. Sanctuary Lakes and Sunshine Heights will both be vying for their first win and Tarneit will look for another big score against Braybrook.
