By NICK GALEA - Under-19
AFTER a long off season, local footy has made its much anticipated return in the shape of the reformed Under-19 competition, where 13 clubs competing in the one division this season.
Albion started their season in the best possible way with a solid 21-point win over St Albans, 6.13. 49 to 4.4. 28 in an entertaining contest at Caroline Springs Town Centre Oval.
Albion's decision making and pressure were key components in the win despite St Albans’ strong efforts.
Both sides were raring to go as they started the game at brisk pace moving the ball with ease from end to end.
Cooper Muir dominated the ruck giving Albion first use of the ball, but they couldn't find the goals.
It took a 50 metre penalty to Deon Darhda at the 16 minute mark to get Albion up and running as he kicked the seasons opening goal.
A few minutes later, a fluent passage of play down the wing resulted in a clinical set shot at goal from St Albans Jake Galea in the pocket. At quarter time Albion lead 1.3. 9 to 1.2. 8.
Albion's pressure in the second quarter put St Albans on the back foot keeping them scoreless, but Albion weren't able to capitalise on their inside-50 entries scoring only the one goal to go into half-time with a 10-point lead, 2.6. 18 to 1.2. 8.
Albion got off to a fast start in the third term through a Robert Sekic major at the third minute mark. They controlled the play with sustained pressure and were rewarded with another goal to Jhoshuar Dean which put them almost five kicks up.
Luke Xerri pulled one back for St Albans with a lovely snap a few minutes before three quarter time.
In the fourth term Albion's Daniel Rozenzweig kicked his first but Amar El Nour responded with a long bomb from outside 50 to keep St Albans in touch.
Corey Potter's snap at the eight minute mark ended any chance of a comeback.
Albion's best were Jhoshuar Dean who kicked two goals and presented strongly, Cooper Muir was influential around the ground and Jacob Tonkinson was as tough as ever.
For St Albans James Krajina started brilliantly but a knock to the head restricted his influence, Jake Galea tried hard and Amar El Nour had moments of brilliance.
Next week Albion will take on Yarraville Seddon Eagles at JR Parsons Reserve whereas St Albans will look to get back on track when they take on Werribee Districts at Soldiers Reserve.
