GIRLS footy will be front and centre in the Western Region Football League next season and over the next few weeks we will be profiling all the clubs who will be fielding teams in our standalone competition.
Today, we get to learn more about the Glen Orden Football Club…
Glen Orden’s venture into women’s football began earlier this year when a group of women came together to get fit.
What started as a group of people coming together to work out branched into something more. Now, the club has plans to expand.
“Our goals were simply having the numbers to play each week and making sure they all felt welcome at the football club,” Glen Orden administrator Nikki Lockwood said.
“2017 will be an exciting time for the Glen Orden Woman's Football team.
“We were restricted to limited numbers last year, but this year we are endeavoring to incorporate a full pre-season with exciting numbers starting on the track last night.”
Lockwood said the club had received several expressions of interest from girls wanting to join the club with members of their inaugural team ready to take their game to the next level.
“The ladies are super excited to improve on last year’s results and be much more competitive, making an impact on the league,” she said.
“Our main focus is to field one competitive senior girl’s side and to also set in place a youth girl’s side.”
Training has already begun, it will continue for two days a week, being Wednesday’s and Friday’s between 6pm and 7.15pm.
