GIRLS footy will be front and centre in the Western Region Football League next season and over the next few weeks we will be profiling all the clubs who will be fielding teams in our standalone competition.
Today, we get to learn more about the Sanctuary Lakes Football Club…
SANCTUARY Lakes president Gavin Young says since the club announced its interest in fielding a girls team in 2017, he has fielded several calls from interested players and parents.
Last week the club was also able to register 10 new players at their one hour information session at Shark Park.
“We have had girls playing for our teams for a long time now, but to have a dedicated team for girls is a fantastic opportunity for our club and our members,” Young said.
“It is a great initiative from the AFL down to support girls’ football, and it is a great opportunity to engage girls in our community.”
Young said the support from within the club and from those already committed to the program has been great.
“We are continuing our drive for girls to join our club and have already had a parent show interest in coaching the team, with training set for early 2017,” he said.
“With an expanded committee, new senior coach and the addition of our very first girls team, the Sanctuary Lakes Football Club will be an exciting club to be a part of in 2017 and beyond.”
