GIRLS footy will be front and centre in the Western Region Football League next season and over the next few weeks we will be profiling all the clubs who will be fielding teams in our standalone competition.
Today, we get to learn more about the Tarneit Football Club…
The number of girls playing in Tarneit’s junior grades has motivated the club to field a junior team in 2017 as well as a senior women’s side.
The Titans is one of the several WRFL clubs expected to play a role in next year’s standalone girl’s competition.
Secretary Sue Thornton said she was very excited about the new competition and what it would mean for young girls in the region.
“We wanted to have one because we have a number of girls playing in juniors already, one of which won WRFL best and fairest for under 12's,” she said.
“2017 is going to be great for girls as they get to play a sport they are passionate about in their own team.”
Thornton said she has received a number of enquiries from potential players and was confident of having at last one junior team and one senior team.
“At this stage we are inviting girls to come along to the Senior girls first training session on November 16, to meet each other,” she said.
