THE Western Region Football League has announced David Newton, WRFL General Manager Football Operations, has accepted an offer to join the staff of the Western Bulldogs Football Club.
David will take up the newly-created role of Manager – Next Generation Academy, a new initiative by the AFL to provide Victorian clubs the ability to identify and develop talented young players who would otherwise not have the opportunity to participate in elite development programs.
David has been an important part of the WRFL staff team since joining in December 2006, when the WRFL offices were located at Yarraville Oval.
He has taken an increasingly leading role in the administration of football operations and is recognized for his knowledge of rules and processes; his ability to work under often challenging pressures; and his commitment to quality service to WRFL member clubs.
David’s contribution as WRFL General Manager Football Operations over the past 10 years includes restructured competitions at both junior and senior levels; a commitment to even-handed customer service at all times; and respect for his expertise across the community football industry.
“While sorry to lose David’s expertise and the strong working bond that we’ve developed over the past several years, this is a great opportunity for him to progress his career in the football industry,” WRFL CEO Bob Tregear said.
“I have no doubt that he will make his mark in whatever roles lie ahead; and that he will always value the experiences, achievements and friendships developed over his 10 years’ service at WRFL.
“On behalf of all WRFL stakeholders and the WRFL Board, I congratulate David and wish he and his family every success for the future.”
David will leave the WRFL to take up his new role with the Western Bulldogs following the Christmas holiday break.
Further announcements regarding his replacement will be made in coming days and weeks.
