FOUR aspiring umpires from the Western Region Football League have been invited to attend a 2017 trial with the AFL Victoria VFL Umpiring Department.
Boundary umpires Riley Kane and Jordan Wiltshire, field umpire Ryan Webster and goal umpire Mitchell Taleb have been nominated to attend the trials for positions on the VFL Development Squads, along with 70 other umpires from across the state.
The trial will give these umpires a chance to improve their skills and work with VFL umpires.
“We extend our best wishes to those lucky enough to have been nominated to attend the trials as they commence their prescribed pre-trialling training program,” AFL Victoria Umpiring Development manager Russell O’Toole said.
The WRFL quartet have had impressive seasons, with Kane, Wiltshire and Webster all officiating the Division 1 Grand Final between Deer Park and Hoppers Crossing.
Taleb was also the goal umpire for the Division 1 Reserves Grand Final decider.
At the WRFL’s Senior Presentation Night, Wiltshire was also named the Boundary Umpire of the Year.
