PARKSIDE has won the signature of Jason Cloke, landing one of the biggest signings of the WRFL off-season to date.
Cloke, who will make his return to the west, played with Craigieburn in the EDFL for the past two seasons.
He has booted 120 goals in the past two years for Craigieburn and was an integral member of their premiership winning Division 1 side this season.
Previously, the former Collingwood defender, played at Spotswood for four years and was a WRFL representative player.
Parkside Football Operations manager Robbie Papal said he was looking forward to seeing Cloke pull on the Magpies jumper.
“Jason will be a fantastic addition to the club with the hope of generating more junior numbers,” he said.
“Juniors and making the club strong for the future is our long term goal.”
Parkside has also managed to secure Justin Dorward for 2017.
Dorwood has been involved with several WRFL teams over his footy career, but has recently been playing with Castlemaine in the Bendigo Football Netball League.
Dorwood has been one of the standout players in the BFNL for the past two years. This year he won the Bendigo Advertiser Best Player of the Year Award and was in the top 10 of the league’s best and fairest.
“Justin is a past player and is coming back as playing assistant coach,” Papal said.
“Justin and Jason are brother-in-law’s so they will fit in to a family oriented club like Parkside.”
Papal said despite a few retirements in the Reserves team, the club has been able to retain most of its playing group.
This season, Parkside were runners-up in the Division 3 Senior competition, losing to Newport Power by 33-points, however their Reserves side defeated Tarneit in the Grand Final.
“2016 was all about consolidation, 2017 will be about developing the juniors,” Papal said.
“Our end goal is to return to play in higher grades and that will be our aim.
“There will be plenty of change left over from the $50k salary cap. In 2016 we had an incentive based system in place and that will remain in season 2017.”
