PARKSIDE has demolished Tarneit in Division 3, putting a huge gap between the top two and the rest of the competition.
Winning by 80-points, the percentage booster sees the Magpies with the greatest percentage in the league (191.10%) and locks in a top two position with just one week remaining.
Parkside had no mercy for the Titans, as they opened their account with six goals in the first quarter to lead 6.3. (39) to 1.2. (8) at the first break.
Their dominance continued into the second term as the piled on four more goals, seeing them take a 50-point lead into half-time, with the game seemingly over.
While the Titans managed to stem the flow of Parkside goals in the third term, they were not able to hit the scoreboard themselves, leaving them with a 64-point margin to overcome in the final term.
However despite their dominance over the competition earlier on in the season, Tarneit looked tired late, with the Magpies kicking five goals to two in the final term.
Parkside’s Matthew Shepperbottom led all comers with four goals for the afternoon, while Martyn Beachem and Aaron Gauci kicked three of their own. Benjamin Ashman and Joseph Jamieson were amongst the best on ground.
The Magpies now look in the box seat to make the Grand Final along with Newport, while Tarneit will have a lot of work to go if they are to get some momentum and confidence back before the finals come along in two weeks’ time.
Braybrook provided the upset of the round, as they flew over the top of the Suns and took a 48-point lead thanks to nine goals from Paul Cutajar-Milosev, giving them something to salvage out of 2016.
Sanctuary Lakes meanwhile all but sealed their position in the top four, with a commanding victory over North Sunshine.
A well rounded performance, led by Steven Neralic with nine goals, saw the Sharks take a 75-point win against the Road Runners.
The Sharks now sit a game clear in the top four, and 12 per cent above the fifth placed Suns.
Finally, Newport Power maintained their winning ways, as they destroyed Laverton by 118-points.
In the final round of the season, each game features one potential finalist. The Power, Sharks, Titans and Parkside will be hoping to enter the finals on winning form and each team will be looking for a strong win as they head into the finals.
Meanwhile their respective opponents in the Suns, the Dragons, the Brookers and the Road Runners will be searching for one final win in 2016.
The curtain has closed on Laverton’s season, who have a bye this weekend and finish the year on the bottom of the ladder with just one win.
