SEVEN players from the west have been selected to represent Vic Metro at next week’s AFL National Inclusion Carnival.
Nathan Cunningham (North Footscray), Damien Parry (North Footscray), Shaun Rayment (North Footscray), Kelvin O’Connor (Williamstown), Bayley Kennedy (Williamstown), Jamie Mifsud (Wyndham), Jason Wickham (Wyndham).
The Vic Metro team will be also be coached by Williamstown Seagulls FIDA coach Rob Klemm, who is hoping to defend his title from last year.
The National Inclusion Carnival is an event that brings together footballers with an intellectual disability from across the country.
AFL Victoria FIDA Football and AAA Programs Manager Logan Whitaker said both the Vic Metro and Vic Country teams were looking forward to the championships.
“Pulling on the Big-V jumpers is a dream a lot of Victorian footballers have, but never get the chance to experience, so it’s safe to say both our all-abilities teams are excited to get out on the park and make their dreams a reality,” Whitaker said.
“Things like this where players get to come out and socialize and be with a group of mates and actually be part of an event like this means a hell of a lot to them and you can see the smiles on their faces when they’re out there kicking the footy, they just love it.”
The round robin tournament will take place over six days from August 9 to 14 and will be played at Whitten Oval, Punt Road Oval and North Port Oval.
