IN a mostly one-sided affair, North Footscray improved to 11-2, with an impressive 57-point win at home over the Glen Orden Hawks in wet conditions on Saturday.
It was the perfect bounce back game for the Red Devils, who relinquished the top spot on the ladder to rival Yarraville Seddon last week.
After being thoroughly outplayed in the hard ball gets last week, it was clear that North Footscray made a concentrated effort to come out and win the contested footy against the Hawks.
They dominated the early stages of the game, being first at the ball and controlled the centre clearances as they had the Hawks on their heels early.
They kicked five goals in the opening term off nine scoring shots and took a 20-point lead into the first quarter break.
Glen Orden would hit back early in the second quarter and match the home sides aggression, kicking the first two goals of the quarter and slicing into the lead. However, their mini-run was short-lived as North Footscray responded and extended the lead back to 20-points at half-time.
The second half played out much like the first with North Footscray suffocating the Hawks from the get-go and dictating the tempo early. They kicked 4.3 in the third quarter and were never in any real trouble from the visitors who managed just two behinds in the term.
Despite the visitors being thoroughly outplayed for the most part, they did have their moments in the game, particularly in the second quarter, but failed to capitalise when they went forward as North Footscray's backline held strong all day.
North Footscray put the Hawks away for good with a string of goals to start the fourth and never looked back, finishing the game with seven different goal scorers, including a bag of seven goals from forward Tyren Montebruno.
The win cements the Red Devils is second place for now and gives them a four-point lead over third placed Caroline Springs. They trail only Yarraville Seddon, who bested them last week.
It won't get any easier next week for Glenorden who are set to host first placed Yarraville Seddon while North Footscray will again be tested as they meet Caroline Springs who are fresh off a bye.
In other games, Yarraville Seddon moved to 12-1 on the season with another strong performance all-round over the lowly West Footscray to the tune of 60-points. Elsewhere, Manor Lakes were boosted by four goals from forward Mark Dorricott, who led the Storm to a 20-point win over Albanvale.
