WILLIAMSTOWN Juniors young gun Matthew Payne is set to go up against some of the best juniors from across the country at the national schools championship.
Matthew is a member of the Under-12 Victorian side and will pull on the Big V jumper at the annual competition.
The talented player was picked from about 1000 juniors from across the state.
“I want to play at the highest possible level I can achieve. I am very honoured to be able to wear the Big V and represent Victoria in the carnival,” Matthew said.
“I cannot wait to get to Maroochydore and for the carnival to begin.
“We have completed two months of intensive training and practice matches.
“More importantly I have got to know my new team mates who come from all parts of Victoria.”
Matthew has been involved with the Williamstown Juniors for several years, he began as an Auskicker and has now played club football for the past five seasons.
Last year he claimed the WRFL’s Under-11A Best and Fairest as well as claiming his club best and fairest award.
Matthew said the best thing about playing footy was that he gets to play alongside his mates.
“Being selected in the Victorian side has meant I have the opportunity to make more friends and learn more about my football,” he said.
The championships run between July 23 and 30 in Maroochydore.
