FOR the first time in 10 years the Western Region Football League’s Division 1 Grand Final will be played at VU Whitten Oval.
The home of the Western Bulldogs and the heart of football in Melbourne’s west, VU Whitten Oval will stage the league’s premier division’s decider on Sunday, September 11.
With the Grand Final being staged at VU Whitten Oval this season, the match has had to be moved to Sunday.
WRFL CEO Bob Tregear said the grand final will be a fantastic event to cap off what has already been a memorable year.
“We couldn’t be happier to have the Division 1 Grand Final at VU Whitten Oval,” he said.
“We are all excited to see the decider come back to the ground and hope whoever plays-off in the match will put on a good show.”
The league had been working closely with the Western Bulldogs for many months to get the game played at VU Whitten Oval.
“We are delighted that Victoria University Whitten Oval will play host to the WRFL Division 1 Grand Final,” Western Bulldogs CEO David Stevenson said.
“We have a strong partnership with the WRFL and are looking forward to strengthening that over this year’s final series and beyond.”
Earlier this year, the venue successfully hosted the WRFL’s Community Championships double-header with the Ballarat Football League, with an Under-19’s and Seniors game taking place.
Other senior finals venues will be announced over coming weeks.
Meanwhile, the 2016 Junior Finals Series will begin this weekend.
Teams from across the league will go head-to-head in finals matches over the next four weeks, with Grand Finals to be played on August 7 and 14.
