REIGNING premiers, the Wyndham Suns did enough to win over Sanctuary Lakes at the weekend, but coach John Cott wouldn’t have been happy with his team’s accuracy in-front of goal.
The Suns won by seven points, but had 12 more scoring shots than Sanctuary Lakes and should have won by a larger margin.
The Suns held the lead at every change but couldn’t shake off the spirited Sharks, who to their credit kept fighting to the final siren.
Wyndham star Christopher Neville was their leading goal kicker, he booted four goals. However it was John Kennedy’s impact across the ground that gave him the best on ground honours.
For the Sharks, Luke Lacey did the most damage up forward. He kicked six goals for the visitors.
Meanwhile, ladder-leaders Parkside won its ninth game of the season after defeating Sunshine Heights at Ainsworth Reserve by 65-points.
Parkside led by 70-points at three quarter time, but Sunshine Heights rallied in the final term to win the final quarter.
The Magpies had nine different goal kickers in the big Round 11 victory. David Orchard and Mark Folwell led the way, the duo each booted three goals.
The Dragons had only two goal kickers. Matthew Camilleri kicked five goals, while Nick Caruana booted their only other major for the match.
Sunshine Heights will be determined to bounce back from their disappointing loss when it takes on Laverton today.
Parkside will take on Newport, the team that gave them their only loss of the season so far.
The Power also had a big win at the weekend, when it defeated Braybrook at Pennell Reserve.
The Brookers were no match for the Power, who dominated the game from the first bounce to the final siren.
Newport kicked five goals in the opening quarter and kept their opposition scoreless in the first quarter.
Braybrook’s first and only goal of the game came in the third term when David Nguyen kicked truly.
Newport’s Ali El Houli was the star, he kicked seven goals in what was an all-round dominant performance.
In the final match of the round, North Sunshine came from behind to defeat Laverton.
The Roadrunners were on the back-foot from the start of the game as the Magpies came out swinging in the first quarter.
The home side kicked five goals to zero in the first term, but momentum soon swang in favour of North Sunshine, who piled on 12 goals to three after quarter time to win the match.
