YARRAVILLE Seddon have continued their charge for a finals spot, defeating Altona by seven-points at Grant Reserve.
The Eagles came out with a point to prove and dominated early, but struggled to kick a goal.
The slippery conditions made scoring difficult as Yarraville Seddon led by one-point at quarter-time.
Altona fought back in the second quarter and were able to keep the ball in their half of the ground for most of the term, but they could only manage a three-point lead at half-time.
Yarraville Seddon edged themselves ahead in the third term with the first two goals but Altona pinched a goal late to bring the margin back to five-points at the last break.
The Eagles got the better of the final term, but their forwards couldn’t take a mark as the game came down to the wire.
A late goal from Jaime Rogasch gave Altona a chance to steal the win, but Vikings ran out of time as Yarraville Seddon won by seven-points.
It was a good day for the defenders as Yarraville Seddon’s Kyle Blake was the only multiple goal scorer for the game with two.
Nicholas Tsaloukis and Jonah Pantalleresco were among the Eagles’ best while Jesse Zammit and Will Taylor did well for Altona.
Deer Park maintained their spot in the top two for another week, beating third-placed Hoppers Crossing by 27-points at Hogans Road Reserve.
The Warriors got off to a flying start to lead by 17-points at the first break, but Deer Park was able to level the scores again by half-time.
After a competitive third quarter where Deer Park ended with a one point lead, the Lions charged home with a five goal to one final quarter to pick up the win.
Nicholas Christofi led the way for Deer Park with three goals while Hoppers Crossing’s Brayden Kitchen added four goals to his tally.
First-placed Werribee Districts also maintained top spot with a 41-point win over Spotswood at McLean Reserve.
The Tigers led for most of the day and were able to increase the margin each quarter as they kept Spotswood to just six goals for the game.
Mading Atem and Aaron Law finished with three goals each for the Tigers while Troy Barnes played a lone hand up forward with three goals.
This week, Hoppers Crossing and Spotswood will both be looking for a win when they meet at Hogans Road Reserve.
Werribee Districts host Altona at Soldiers Reserve and Deer Park continue their charge for top spot against Yarraville Seddon at Yarraville Oval.
