IN Round 8, Parkside dealt Tarneit their first loss of 2016, proving that the Titans are not indestructible and can be beaten.
While Tarneit is only above Newport by percentage, Parkside has closed the gap between the top three teams in recent weeks and now find themselves one win away from top spot.
Brent Kelly was a shining light up forward for the Magpies with three goals, while Joseph Jamieson and Benjamin Ashman were also among the best players for visiting team.
Meanwhile, Corey Mackey equalled Kelly’s efforts with three goals for the Titans, while Ryan Delekta fought all day to try and keep Tarneit’s winning streak alive.
While Tarneit looked like running away with the game after a powerful first quarter, in which they finished 19-points ahead, a six goal second term helped guide Parkside to the upset win.
Leading by just 13-points at half time, Parkside managed to maintain their lead in a tight third term.
However, going into the last with a 10-point lead, Parkside turned up the heat a notch, keeping the Titans goalless, while kicking three of their own, as they went on to win by 31-points.
In the rounds other games, the Wyndham Suns and Braybrook played out a tight contest to three-quarter-time, before the Suns ran away with the game to win by 30-points.
Rhys Kirk, Christopher Mychajlyshyn and Luke Aquilina kicked two goals each for the Suns.
The Sharks also found themselves on the winners list, as they edged out North Sunshine to win by 29-points in a solid performance, after leading at every change.
Finally, Newport Power again showed that they mean business and will be well and truly challenging for the Premiership in their debut season, as they carved up Laverton by 71-points at Laverton Park.
This weekend, the Sharks will host Sunshine Heights, coming in fresh from the bye, in what will be a season defining match.
Both teams are currently sitting in fourth and fifth position, separated by just two per cent, and will both be desperate for the win.
Tarneit will have a chance to respond in round 9 as the travel to Pennell Reserve to play the Brookers, while Newport will host the Suns and will be after a big win to put them on top of the ladder.
Finally, Parkside will face off against the Roadrunners, who will be looking to keep in touch with the top four.
Laverton have the bye and will look to come out firing and ready to snatch their first win in round 10.
