HOPPERS Crossing cruised to their fourth straight win, comfortably beating reigning premiers Spotswood by 87-points at McLean Reserve.
The Warriors kept Spotswood to just one goal in the first half and led by 41-points at half-time as the Woodsmen struggled to take a mark in the forward line.
Hoppers Crossing continued their dominance in the third quarter and looked like they were cruising to a big win before Spotswood managed to grab the momentum with two late goals.
However, it wasn’t enough as the Warriors finished the game off with a six goal to none last quarter and an 87-point win.
John Tomelty kicked five goals for Hoppers Crossing and Lochlan McDonald stood out when he had the ball in his hands, finishing with three goals of his own.
Jaii Bunting got a lot of the ball through the midfield and laid several big tackles for Spotswood while Grant Williams also played well.
Werribee Districts notched their fifth straight win when they beat Yarraville Seddon by 30-points at Soldiers Reserve.
The Tigers struggled with accuracy in the first quarter, but led by 15-points at the first break before Yarraville Seddon were able to pull the margin back to three points at half time.
Werribee Districts proved to be too strong for the Eagles in the second half though, kicking seven goals and limiting Yarraville Seddon to just two for the win.
The Tigers had a nice spread of contributors with four players each finishing with two goals while Lachlan Formosa was the only multiple goal kicker for Yarraville Seddon.
In the final game of the round, Altona beat Deer Park by 17-points in a back-and-forth match at Grant Reserve.
The Vikings started strong with a five goal to one first quarter and led by 25-points at quarter time before Deer Park dragged themselves back into the game and took a two point lead into half time.
Altona were able to limit the Lions to just one goal after half time and regained the lead in the third term before pushing the margin out to 17-points by the final siren.
Joshua Hindle kicked four goals for the Vikings while Suren Bowala and Joel Menadue both added two of their own. Matthew Muscari was one of Deer Park’s best with two goals.
Round 7 will see Hoppers Crossing look to maintain their spot on top of the ladder when they travel to John McLeod Reserve to take on Deer Park.
Yarraville Seddon will play Altona at Yarraville Oval on May 28, while both Spotswood and Werribee Districts have the bye.
