A STRONG performance from the Parkside Magpies has seen them move into the top four, after holding off a brave Wyndham Suns outfit at the weekend.
While Parkside led for the entire match, a four goal last term from the Suns threatened the Magpies chances, though they managed to hold on to win by 20-points.
Benjamin Ashman and Joseph Jamieson were both competitive players for Parkside, each kicking a goal, while John Eastoe also performed strongly.
Parkside’s Matthew Shepperbottom kicked three goals, taking his season tally to nine, while Wyndham had a more even spread of goal kickers, with Joshua Stephens, Ashley Gallina and Dean Cachia kicking two goals each.
A strong start from Parkside set the tone for the match, as they held the Suns scoreless, however once Wyndham turned up the heat in the second quarter, the Magpies had trouble breaking away.
Despite trailing by 38-points at three quarter time, Wyndham didn’t give up without a fight, as they kicked 4.6 in a strong final term, but ultimately it was too little too late.
In round six’s other matches, an inaccurate Sunshine Heights burst away late from a Braybrook side, spurred on by their win in Round 5, to lose by 28-points.
Dragon’s star Robert Greto kicked seven goals, continuing his fine form for 2016.
A dominant Tarneit also took home the four points, as they defeated bottom placed Laverton by 116-points.
Titans stars Jay Gorman and Corey Mackey both bagged five goals, while Todd Lawrie and Thomas Robertson also kicked three goals each.
In the final match of the round Newport Power defeated a brave North Sunshine on the road.
This weekend, Newport Power will host Sunshine Heights in game of the round as second plays third.
While, the Power have looked like one of the more dominant teams in 2016, Sunshine Heights also has a formidable line-up which is headed by Greto, Leo Eliepa and Daniel Harraca.
Ladder-leaders Tarneit will look to make it six wins to start the year, as they host Wyndham Suns at Wootten Road reserve.
In another high quality game, likely to shape the finals, Sanctuary Lakes will travel to Parkside, not playing only for the win, but also for a spot in the top four.
Finally, Laverton will hope to kick start their season as they host Braybrook at home, in a game that neither side would want to see slip.
North Sunshine has the week off.
