BRAYBROOK won their first game of the season at the weekend by just four points against a spirited North sunshine outfit at Pennell Reserve.
An even first term saw Braybrook take a 5-point lead, as both teams kicked three goals each.
However Braybrook, determined for their first win of the season, looked a lot stronger defensively in the second term, and while only adding two goals to their own tally, held the Roadrunners to just three behinds.
The pace of the game changed in the third term, as a high scoring quarter saw North Sunshine kick five goals, but the Brookers kicked seven of their own as they took a comfortable 27-point lead going into three quarter time.
Despite the lead, the Roadrunners kept running until the end, as they booted five goals for the quarter, desperate to stay in touch with the top four, however Braybrook would hold on for a memorable victory.
Paul Cutajar-Milosev was integral for the Brookers up forward, with five goals, while Manuel Reardon and Scott O’Neill also played well for Braybrook.
At the other end of the ground, Anthony Silva kicked four of his own goals, and had a strong contribution for the Roadrunners, as did Brenton Cooper and David Aleksov with two goals apiece.
In the game dubbed ‘match of the round’, Tarneit proved they are a force to be reckoned with in 2016, destroying fellow flag hopefuls Sunshine Heights by 97-points, as they kicked 9.4 in the final term while keeping the Dragons scoreless.
Newport Power also flexed their muscles against the Sharks, with skipper Mark Williams kicking seven goals as they won comfortably by 52-points.
Meanwhile, the Wyndham Suns rebounded against the winless Laverton, as they came from behind to win by 31-points, thanks to an eight goal final term, in windy conditions at Goddard St Reserve.
In Round 6 action, cellar dwellers Laverton face a huge task as they look for their first win against the undefeated Tarneit.
Meanwhile, Sunshine Heights will be looking to rebound against a Braybrook side, who will be up and about after their first win in 2016.
Newport Power will travel to North Sunshine, where they hope they can defeat the Roadrunners, while Wyndham Suns will look to make it two in a row against Parkside.
Sanctuary Lakes have the bye.
