WERRIBEE Districts remain second on the Under-19 Division 2 ladder after recording a 16-point win over local rivals Wyndhamvale6.17.(53) to 4.13. (37) at Soldiers Reserve in an entertaining and tough game of footy.
In a highly contested opening quarter that was played at an exhilarating pace of end to end footy, neither side was showing sides of backingdown.
The first and only goal of the quartertook 17 minutes to be kicked.
Both sides had early blemishes in front of goal, but it was Wyndhamvale who took a 5-point lead heading into the first break.
Wyndhamvale kicked the first goal of the second term to skip to a two goal lead before Werribee started to win the clearancesand have more uncontested possession to snatch the lead after some dominant patches of play.
However, just on the half time siren, Wyndhamvale closed the difference to 1-point after Jayme Gilmore hit-up a Liam Jones lead who nailed a big time goal from the 50 metre arc.
Werribee dominated the third quarter as they had numerous inside 50's, but were unable to punish Wyndhamvale on the scoreboard.
The Falcons defence was resolute and was able to keep the margin within reach the third quarter break.
The last quarter started slowly, but a crucial turnover on Wyndhamvale's defensive 50 allowed Werribee Districts player Scott Woods the beneficiary of a chain of handpasses to slam home a goal, pushing the lead out to 16-points and ultimately winning the game for the Tigers.
Jake Clark was a consistent four quarter performer for Werribee as was Matthew Curraowith who kicked three goals, Harley Kilby was a bull at the contest and Jayden Defina was a highlight in defence.
Wyndhamvale's Jayme Gilmore, once again was brilliantwith his run and carry a strong feature of his game.
Dylan Reynonds was solid in defence receiving good support from Thobey Burgio.
Round 5's other result had Newport Power demolishing Sanctuary Lakes 23.6. (144) to 5.4. (34) at Bryan Martyn Oval.
Newport's Youssef El Hawli was dominant, his eight goals gave him the best on ground award.
Jehad Haddara kicked four goals and Abdul Abdo had two of his own.
Mitchel Grima tried hard for Sanctuary Lakes as did Luke Coleiro who continued his consistent season.
Round 6 will see Werribee Districts up against Sanctuary Lakes at Featherbrook Reserve and Albion who will be keen to bounce back from successive losses, host Wyndhamvale at JR Parsons Reserve.
Newport have the bye.
