ANOTHER game, another win. The Werribee Districts continued its good form from Round 1 with a comprehensive 119-point thrashing of Wyndhamvale.
The class and skill of the home side helped set up the big win, as there was little resistance all day to the Districts run and carry from half-back.
Despite playing on the smaller field of Soldiers Reserve, the Falcons could barely penetrate its attacking 50, only kicking its first goal midway through the third quarter.
Nicholas Morrison led the way for the Districts with six majors, while Jordan Patty and Matthew Wilkinson booted three each.
While not a score line that will be often replicated, the 21.14. (140) to 3.3. (21) win shows just how dominant Werribee can be when in-form.
The Districts will look to make it three wins from as many matches as they face Sunshine next, while Wyndhamvale have Round 3 and will attempt to earn its first win next week.
Sunshine was able to earn its first win of the season in a tight contest against Albion.
The Kangaroos led at each break and were the far more attacking side, registering 26 scoring shots to 11.
A final quarter comeback almost saw the Cats topple its opponent but they were unable to bridge the final 10 points.
Despite the loss, Albion is already playing much better football when compared to last season, and if its form can continue, a mid-table finish may not be out of the question.
Round 3 sees the Cats take on Deer Park.
A second consecutive win by 50-plus points puts Hoppers Crossing firmly into first place on the ladder, and once again stamps its favoritism for this year’s premiership.
A dominant defensive performance, which saw the Lions only able to kick one goal in each half gives the Warriors a great percentage, which could come in handy later in the season as teams fight for a top two finish.
The visitors had eleven individual goal-kickers, which helped push the final score line to 13.8. (86) to 2.5. (17), and highlights how dangerous Hoppers Crossing are offensively.
The Warriors will maintain its top of the ladder spot if they defeat Spotswood.
St. Albans used three goals from Besnik Kutleshi and Guy McLaughlin each to down Spotswood 9.16. (70) to 7.5. (47).
The home side bounced back from last week’s loss, as three final quarter goals was the difference in the end and kept the Woodsmen winless.
The Saints will look to add to its 22-point victory with another win in Round 3, if they can get by the Altona Vikings.
