CAROLINE Springs entered their season opener against Manor Lakes on Saturday with the goal of wanting to play finals football this year.
That optimism took another route north as the Lakers smashed the Storm by a whopping 178-points in the opening round of the season last weekend.
Triple Hawthorn premiership player Brian Lake had a seven-goal haul from centre half forward, while boom recruit and former Ballarat Football League goal machine Mathew Sutton booted 11.
The Lakers kicked things off with an 11-goal first quarter, which ultimately set up the win.
The third quarter was a reflection of the first as the Lakers kicked another 10 goals, to the Storm’s one goal to have a lead of 146-points.
A key stat that Lakers coach Scott Korczynski would be pleased with was the 55 tackles the Lakers were able to lay.
Pressure is a key in football and many of these tackles forced turnovers which led to goals.

Division three premiers and competition new boys Albanvale put the nail in the coffin to any uncertainty many had of them competing in Division 2 with a resounding 152-point win over last year’s grand finalists, West Footscray.
Led by goals from John Sirianni who kicked 12 and Steven Farrugia who kicked five, the Cobras had a game to remember.
Sirianni started what he finished in division three kicking another bag of goals in a best on ground display.
Sean Blake was busy in midfield along with Dylan Smith.
In a game that didn’t have not many highlights for the Roosters Kane Liossis and Steven Jamieson kicked their only two goals of the game.

Meanwhile, the Division 2 Reserves competition got underway on Saturday at Howqua Reserve, with Caroline Springs inflicting a massive win on Manor Lakes.
Manor Lakes didn’t seem to have a chance as Caroline Springs were out for blood, not letting their opposition score a single goal across four quarters.
Caroline Springs star Blake Richards could not be stopped. In a best on ground performance he booted eight goals.
The Lakers are bound to be happy with this 215-point win, they are definitely going to be a team to watch this year.
In Round 2 Caroline Springs will be resting after their huge win with a bye, whilst the other teams who did not start last week are set to play.
Albanvale are hosting their first match against Manor Lakes.
North Footscray will make the drive to Heathdale Oval, as they take on Glen Orden.
Finally, Yarraville Seddon will be travelling the short distance to West Footscray for a derby match.
