THE Countdown to the start of the WRFL season has officially begun with our first club profile on junior club, St Bernards.
The WRFL spoke to St Bernards vice president/secretary Ross Di Lizio about the 2016 season.
How has the pre-season been, any exciting news?
Our club has been successfully running a Football Academy for 15-19 year olds for five years now and this pre-season we have had over 100 boys involved.
The program starts every November and is a major part of the clubs success in both our Junior and Senior ranks.
What are your expectations for the new season as a club?
Football Development is important but as Junior Club we focus on a culture that ensures we have a family friendly environment that provides all boys and girls with the chance to have fun playing footy with their friends.
Any staff/coaching or manager changes at your club?
This season our President over the last two years Paul Flynn has stepped down, but fortunately for the club he remains involved at the committee level.
Adrian Fuller has taken up the role of President and is supported by a strong committee.
We are fortunate to have a great community at our club that strongly supports club events throughout the season.
Approximately, how many teams will you be fielding this year?
14.
Are there any upcoming events coming up?
Round 1 is always exciting and our “Sunday Roasts” will have a new twist this year. We are looking forward to some great support from our community.
Training details:
All training details are on Team App, as well as the academy we allow our coaches to run their own pre-season training and many teams have already started making the most of daylight saving at Fairburn Park in Ascot Vale.
Make sure to visit the WRFL website tomorrow as we preview another club ahead of the start of the season.
