THE Red Onion Creative Ballarat Football Netball League has appointed Shaun O’Loughlin coach of its interleague team which will take on the Western Region Football League in May.
O’Loughlin (pictured right) takes over from Shane Skontra as head coach, who led the Ballarat side to victory over Bendigo in last year’s WorkSafe AFL Victoria Championship match.
O’Loughlin is a Level 3 AFL Accredited Coach who spent five years as a Development Coach and Senior Coach at the Ballarat FNC alongside John Northey.
In 2011 he joined the North Ballarat Rebels as a Development and Opposition Analysis Coach. During his time there he also was the Midfield and Backline Coach.
Two year's ago he was an assistant coach with the Melbourne FC Women’s Team and was also appointed as the AFL Goldfields Junior Academy Head Coach.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of taking on the Senior Football Interleague Coaching position with Ballarat FNL,” O'Loughlin told the Ballarat FNL website.
“I’m looking forward to working with new people and new challenges, particularly taking on the WRFL on their home turf, which will be difficult against a league that has a huge amount of talent at its disposal.”
O’Loughlin will go head-to-head with the Western Region Football League’s head coach Anthony Eames.
Eames was appointed to the role last month.
The 2016 Interleague Championships will be different this year with AFL Victoria unveiling a new format last year.
The competition pits metropolitan and country leagues against one another for the first time.
The Interleague match between the WRFL and the Ballart FNL will be held on the weekend of May 21 and 22.
