FOOTBALL Williamstown’s Player and Coaching Development Program has gone from strength to strength in its inaugural year.
The exciting new initiative headed by Mat Montebello could be a first for the Western Region Football League.
The purpose of the program, which is designed for the Williamstown Juniors and the Williamstown CYMS Football Clubs, is to provide ongoing support through targeted training programs and professional development.
The support includes monthly coaching workshops, which range from coaching education, training, planning and game day support.
“We provide specified target coaching through our newly established football academy, while also being available to run specialized training sessions with the players and coaches,” Montebello said.
“All coaches, assistants included, have ongoing access to resources, while having the opportunity to discuss coaching philosophy amongst their peers and more experienced coaches.
“It is about creating opportunities for all parties to grow and develop to reach their full potential.”
Montebello said a key part of Williamstown’s vision was to create an environment that better developed their junior and senior players.
“The main aim is to provide the best environment for our players to grow and develop,” he said.
“Whether they just want to play locally or have aspirations to play at a higher level, our role is to provide the environment that will meet the needs of all our players.”
This year was the first year of the program with plans for 2016 already in full swing.
Football Williamstown has already begun developing plans and ideas for next year, including the introduction of a junior player academy which targets under-13 to under-15 players.
The academy will allow youngsters the opportunity to continue to be involved with football across the summer months.
“The program has been received by coaches and parents of players extremely positively,” Montebello said.
“We are looking to continue to build on this momentum to support our players and coaches in the best way possible.”
