ALBION’S goal for a better 2016 has started in the best possible way, with the club announcing a number of exciting new recruits have joined the Cattery.
Coach Aaron Tymms, who was recently award a life membership to the Albion Football Club, began his recruitment campaign early and has landed several key players for next season.
Josh Bench, who spent the past three years with Williamstown in the VFL, has decided to return to where his footy playing days began.
Bench won back-to-back premierships with Williamstown’s Development team, he won the best on ground medal in 2013.
During his time with the Seagulls he also managed to play five senior games.
Tymms appointed Bench as the 2016 senior captain.
Club favourite Troy Kelm will return to Albion.
The 2014 Best and Fairest winner played with premiership winners North Bendigo in the Heathcote District Football League this year.
Kelm had a standout season with North Bendigo. He played a starring role in their premiership win against Leitchville-Gunbower, winning the AFL Victoria Country medal for being the best on ground.
Kelm’s North Bendigo team-mate Jeremy Mills has also signed on to join the Cats.
Mills has been with North Bendigo for the past two seasons.
The talented onballer was an Inter-league representative player, in the HDFL Team of the Year and was also third in the HDFL best and fairest award this season.
James Taylor, who played his juniors at the Cats, will return to the senior side in 2016.
He has spent the past two seasons with Werribee in the VFL.
Despite a run of injuries, the forward was able to get some game time in Werribee’s development side.
Kym Taylor is another player to join the club.
He played two season with the Western Jets in the TAC Cup in 2010 and 2011.
Taylor took a year off in 2015, but managed to stay connected with Albion, coaching their under-16 team.
The younger brother of Sammy Ali, Hamzah Ali, has joined the Cats.
He played with the Western Jets in 2013 and was also a part of Spotswood’s under-18 premiership team last season.
Lastly, Jake Savage has signed on with the club.
A previous player with Albion, Savage is back on board with the Cats in 2016.
