The WRFL season may have just ended, but there is plenty of footy news kicking around the league. See below all the latest news.
Saade Ghazi has been appointed coach of Altona for another season.
Ian Fox will continue as Altona’s Reserves coach while Dean Callaway, former Eagles senior coach has been announced as the Vikings’ Under-19 coach in 2018.
Brett Kennerley is also returning as coach of North Sunshine next season, he will be joined by assistant coaches Wayne Curnow and Jackson Maloney.
Deer Park coach Marc Bullen will continue his tenure at the club next season. The WRFL reported his appointment on the eve of the Division 1 Grand Final.
Sunshine coach Brendan Hallinan will be back on board in 2018. Hallinan was last week recognised by the Australian Football Coaches Association when he was named Senior Coach of the Year.
Tarneit’s Mark Elso has been re-appointed as senior coach for next season.
Ian Denny will coach Point Cook in 2018, he has coached the Bulldogs since 2014.
Brett Jacobs is also joining the Bulldogs next season. Last month the club announced Jacobs would be joining its senior coaching panel, assisting both the seniors and reserves coaches.
Jacobs has a highly credentialed coaching and playing record in the WRFL. For the past two seasons he has been an assistant coach of the league’s senior interleague team
Meanwhile, Caroline Springs has appointed Anthea Stathakis as its new Senior Women’s coach. She will take over from Terry Azzopardi.
“Anthea, was a playing member of our inaugural women's team in 2017 and along with her family, an active and long term contributor with our juniors,” the Caroline Springs Facebook post stated.
“Anthea has also reached the pinnacle as a Basketballer playing for the Melbourne Tigers and a squad member with the Australian Opals, so will bring a level of professionalism to the team and continued growth.”
