OVER the course of the season the Altona Junior Football Club has been busy raising money for various community organisations.
The Viking family haven’t just focused on getting the results on the field, the club has been working just as hard to support its community.
At it’s Junior Presentation day on Sunday, more than 250 people came together to celebrate the 2017 season. The club also donated more than $8000 to charity.
The EJ Whitten Foundation and the Alannah and Madeline Foundation each received a $3000 cheque.
The Stop, One Punch Can Kill campaign also received $1800.
Caterina Politi from the organisation spoke with Altona’s Under-17 players at the beginning of the season. Caterina is on a mission to end the senseless acts of street and social violence.
Altona Juniors also presented a cheque to Shae-Lee Murphy, a former Vikings player.
Shae-Lee is one of 30 female footy players from across Australia to be selected to represent the Aussie Sparks for the inaugural Australian Rules Football tour.
The tour begins in San Francisco and will also include stops in Los Angeles and San Diego, where the USAFL Nationals will be held.
Altona Junior administrator Naomi Redpath said it was important to the club to give back.
“We are so proud to be able to assist such worthy causes, and appreciate the support from our sponsors and families who help us achieve this level of awesome,” she said.
“It also goes to say that without the hard work and structure of previous committees at AJFC over the past few decades, we could possibly never be in a position to even attempt this level of community work. Thanks goes to them too.”
