ANY team on any day can be beaten – that’s the attitude Manor Lakes Senior Women’s coach Nathan Smithwick will take into this Sunday’s Grand Final.
The Storm earned their spot in the Senior Women’s final after they defeated Sunbury in the preliminary final last weekend.
Smithwick said he was incredibly proud of his team’s achievements this season and hoped the Storm could get the job done in the final game of the year.
“The feeling after the Sunbury game was a weird one,” he laughed. “This is my first year of coaching and I haven’t been involved in a Grand Final since I was 11-years-old, so the feeling after the game was amazing.”
Manor Lakes’ task doesn’t get any easier this weekend, they have to take on the undefeated Keilor side who has been an unstoppable force in 2017.
Keilor ended the home and away season with a percentage of 2855% and only had 63 points scored against.
Smithwick said the team was looking forward to the Keilor challenge.
“Anyone is beatable,” he said. “If you ask anyone involved with sport, they would say the same thing, anyone is beatable.”
While Keilor have been a cut above the rest this year, Manor Lakes have also had an impressive season.
Coming off a premiership win last year, the Storm bolstered their line-up this year, with their hunger to win still well and truley alive.
The Storm dropped just two games in the regular season, and had a loss in the Semi Final. All three losses were to the Blues.
Kellee Mcintosh and Yana Frontczak are two of their star players, the duo have combined for 88 goals this season.
Smithwick said the focus this week was just to have fun.
“We play footy because we want have fun, but we also want to win.”
Manor Lakes will take on Keilor at Greenvale Recreation Reserve Oval at 2.30pm on Sunday.
Entry cost $10 for adults. Valid Aged Pension Card Holders and Valid Secondary Student Concessions cost $5. Children under the age of 14 enter free. Records will be free with entrance.
The game will also be broadcast live on mixlr.com/edflfooty and live scores will be available on the WRFL Live app.
