YARRAVILLE-Seddon have announced themselves as a threat to the premiership, after defeating ladder leaders North Footscray by 13-points at Hansen Reserve.
Jack Hargreaves was the dominant forward on the day, kicking four of the Eagle’s nine goals in a low scoring affair, while competition leaders James Butty and Tyrone Montebruno kicked one goal each.
Shane Weatherley chipped in with two goals for the Eagles in a best-on-ground performance, while Jesse Varsamakis and Jack Collins were also impressive for the winners.
Reece Duffield was best on for the Devils, while Jonathan Miller was also important with two goals.
The Devils held the slimmest of margins at quarter time, with both teams kicking a goal each to see a score line of 1.2. (8) to 1.1. (7) in an intense battle.
The Eagles kicked away in the second term however, adding three goals to their tally, while North Footscray were wasteful as they went in to half time with two goals and five behinds, trailing by 11-points.
An even third quarter saw the Devils close the margin to 10-points at three quarter time, but it wouldn’t be enough, as the Eagles took control of the play again in the final quarter to run out 13- point winners, but inaccuracy made the margin much slimmer than it could have been.
In the rounds other matches Manor Lakes ran away from a spirited West Footscray after a close first half, which saw just two points between the Storm and the Roosters at half-time.
But, the Roosters would kick just one goal thereafter as the Storm won by 29-points.
Meanwhile, Newport Power made a statement against Albanvale, with a 75-point win.
Mitchell Taleb put on a clinic with seven goals, while Imran Saaoud continued his good form and chipped in with a goal of his own.
Looking ahead and Newport has another opportunity to take a good scalp as they face off against Yarraville Seddon, but they will have to bring their A-game with the Eagles on a good patch of form as well.
Meanwhile, the Footscray derby gets underway at Shorten Reserve as West hosts North, in what is also top of the table verses the bottom of the ladder.
Finally, Albanvale will be looking to make amends as the play Manor Lakes.
