WINDY conditions again caused havoc in the WRFL at the weekend, as Manor Lakes accounted for Newport Power by 36-points.
With 14 of the 15 goals scored to one end, it was important for both teams to take advantage of the conditions, however it was Manor Lakes who took control, as they kicked seven goals in the opening quarter to blow the game away.
The Power couldn’t match the intensity of the Storm when it was their chance in the second term, as they kicked just three goals, however reduced the margin to 29-points thanks to strong defence keeping Manor Lakes goalless.
Manor Lakes added to the tally in the third quarter with two goals which ultimately sealed the win. The final score was 10.14. (74) to 5.8. (38).
Joshua Doyle and Corey Jennings were among the best ball users for the Storm, while Cameron Baker and Mitchell Davis also impressed, with the duo slotting two goals apiece.
For Newport Daniel Wojcik and Hamza Abdo were the best players, while Cameron D’Altera was Power’s only multiple goal scorer with two.
In the rounds other matches, leading goal kicker Tyrone Montebruno put on an absolute clinic as he kicked seven goals, while his forward line assistant James Butty chipped in with three in the Devils big win.
The 75-point win over the Cobras sees the Devils holding top spot on the ladder by three wins.
Dean Formosa and David Azzopardi were the only goal kickers for Albanvale, with three goals and two goals respectively.
Meanwhile, Sean Krakouer kicked six goals for Yarraville, who toppled West Footscray by 107-points after a slow start.
Scott Miller kicked four goals for the Eagles, While Ange Messina kicked two goals for West Footscray.
Dale Laing and Mason Agrove were also among the best for Yarraville-Seddon.
This weekend could prove to be season defining, with the top two teams, North Footscray and Yarraville Seddon going head-to-head.
Manor Lakes have an opportunity to close in on the top two, as they face bottom placed West Footscray.
Finally, Newport Power hosts Albanvale, with both teams needing to win to find themselves in finals contention.
In the Reserves, Newport Power held on to defeat Albanvale by two points.
North Footscray scored a big win over Albanvale. The final score was 31.17. (203) to 2.2. (14). Matthew Walsh kicked 11 goals in the win. He has kicked 76 goals for the season.
Finally, Yarraville defeated West Footscray by 152-points. Matthew Taylor led the goal scorers with eight goals.
