BROWNLOW medallist Adam Cooney, has been approved to join the Spotswood Football Club.
On the final day to lodge clearances, the former Western Bulldogs and Essendon champion, has been transferred to the Division 1 club.
Cooney made an appearance during the Woodsman’s pre-season, training with the group back in November, but didn't commit to playing the 2017 season.
However, with his clearance now approved, there is hope the talented midfielder will be seen playing in the WRFL sooner rather than later.
Cooney has had a decorated 13-year career in the AFL. He was the number one draft pick in 2003 and won the 2008 Brownlow Medal. In the same year he was also picked in the All Australian team.
Cooney retired from the top level last season, after playing 250 games.
Meanwhile, Kurt Aylett has also joined Werribee Districts from the Redan Football Club.
Aylett played three games in the AFL, one for GWS and two at the Essendon Football Club.
