A MIGHTY last quarter effort saw West Footscray come from behind to defeat Newport Power on Saturday, scoring their first win of the 2017 season.
The Roosters kicked seven goals to one in the final term to record a famous victory at Shorten Reserve.
The margin was close throughout the first three quarters of the match, with the Power leading by eight points at the final break.
However, Shane Lucas and his team were able to overrun their opponents in the last quarter, winning 14.13. (97) to 10.7. (67).
Henry Hollingworth kicked three goals for the Roosters, while Steven Jamieson, Simon Kelland, Caleb Morgan and Kamtorn Kenny-Jones all kicked two goals.
However it was Kyle Forge’s efforts across the four quarters that gave him best on ground honours. Hamza Abdo was Newport’s best player.
North Footscray’s domination of the Division 2 Senior competition continued, with the Devils defeating Manor Lakes by 94-points at Howqua Reserve.
Only 31-points separated the two sides at half-time, but it was one way traffic after that. The Devils kicked 14 goals to three to win their seventh game of the season.
Jason Butty was at his damaging best, kicking 11-goals in a best on ground display.
North Footscray are by far the best attacking and defensive team in the competition. The senior side has scored 1017 points in seven games and have only given up 464 points.
In the final game of the round, the Yarraville Seddon Eagles defeated Albanvale by 141-points at Robert Bruce Reserve.
The Eagles debuted three players into their senior side, Matt Sparks, Patty Hynes and Under-19 young gun Lachy Huell.
Ben McCrorey and Matt Taylor were the main targets up forward, they duo kicked 10 goals between them.
In Round 8 action, Newport Power will take on Manor Lakes at Bryan Martyn Oval, North Footscray will host Albanvale and the Yarraville Seddon Eagles will verse West Footscray at Yarraville Oval.
LAST KICK OF THE GAME WINS IT FOR WEST FOOTSCRAY
Division 2 Reserves
WEST Footscray have scored their first win in the Reserves in dramatic fashion, with a kick coming after the final siren to win the match.
The Roosters led by seven-points at three quarter time and were down by a point with just seconds to spare in the final quarter before a last ditch effort saw them overcome the Power with the final kick of the day.
The final score was 11.9. (75) to 11.4. (70).
Ange Messina was the leading goal kicker on the day, he ended up with five goals next to his name, while Uchitha Wijesekara was named best on ground.
Manor Lakes defeated North Footscray by 21-points.
The score was even at quarter time, half-time and at three quarter time, however it was the Storm that came out on top. The final score was 11.9. (75) to 8.6. (54).
Manor Lakes player Luke Styles kicked seven goals.
In the final match of the Round, the Eagles continued their unbeaten run, defeating Albanvale by 150-points at Robert Bruce Oval.
