By NICK GALEA – Under-19
ROUND 4 of the Under-19 competition has seen the ladder start to take shape and figure out who may be the contenders this season.
The Yarraville Seddon Eagles are first on the ladder with four wins and a game clear of Altona who are secondwith Albion, the Wyndham Suns and Werribee Districts making up the top five.
Yarraville were victorious in their encounter against the Newport Power, winning 15.8. (98) to 0.1 (1).
In a different turn of events, both clubs displayed great sportsmanship to call the game off at half-time due to the Power not able to field a full side.
Despite Newport's unfortunate lack of numbers, Yarraville were impressive with the way they moved the ball at brisk pace and precision to find numerous targets inside 50.
For the Eagles, Lachlan Formosa and Kyle Blake were standouts.
In the other matches, Werribee Districts accounted for Caroline Springs after kicking five opening quarter goals.
The Tigers continued to control the game, winning by 33-points.
Albion made a statement to the competition with a strong 52-point win over the Wyndham Suns, 11.15. (81) to 4.5. (29).
Despite being scoreless at quarter time, Albion only conceded one goal in the next three terms, while they kicked into gear, scoring 11 majors.
Hoppers Crossing recorded consecutive victories with a 131-point win over St Albans, kicking an outstandingly accurate 24.7. (151) to 3.2. (20).
Rhys Boys for the Warriors slotted eight goals to join nine other goal kickers for the game.
Lastly, Spotswood bounced back with a comprehensive win over Wyndhamvale 32.21. (213) to 0.2. (2).
Both Jordan Dimkovski and James Walters nailed seven goals to lead the rout and give the Woodsmen their second win of the season.
Unfortunately there was no game between Altona and Sanctuary Lakes due to the latter having to pull out of the competition.
The Under-19’s competition will have a break this weekend due to the Community Championships and will return on May 20.
