NEWPORT Power has won their first seniors match in Division 2 after a solid performance against the Roosters.
A tight tussle earlier on had the two teams drawn level at first break, with West Footscray pushing for their first win of the year, and just their second since 2015.
The second term followed suit, with neither side able to break away from the other, with a solitary point seeing the Roosters ahead 4.6. (30) to 4.5. (29) at the major change.
The Power would ignite in the third term though, as they kicked five goals to one for the quarter to establish a 24-point lead.
While West Footscray put up a fight in the last, they couldn’t outdo the Power who ran away 25-point winners.
While the Power had a wide range of contributors up forward, Mustafa Mesto and Imran Saaoud were prolific with three goals each, while Youssef El Hawli chipped in with two of his own.
Abdul Elkurdi was the best on ground for Newport, while Ziad Kadour and Belal Mesto both backed up solid round one performances with strong showings against the Roosters.
For the Roosters, Tobi Bray kicked three goals, while Thomas Augustine and Matthew Freestun were strong performers.
In the rounds other matches, Yarraville-Seddon and North Footscray established themselves as the teams to beat in the competition, with big wins over Albanvale and Manor Lakes respectively.
North Footscray put the pedal to the metal in the final term with nine goals to two for the term giving them a 66-point win, while seven goals from Chris Topalidis gave Yarraville-Seddon a 51-point victory.
This weekend, Albanvale will take on the second place North Footscray.
Manor Lakes meanwhile will be aiming to get their first win of the season, but will have to overcome Newport Power. Finally, West Footscray face ladder leaders Yarraville-Seddon.
EAGLES FLY HIGH AGAINST COBRAS

The Yarraville Seddon Eagles scored a comprehensive victory over Albanvale in Round 2 of the Division 2 Reserves competition.
The Eagles won the game in the opening quarter, kicking seven goals to zero, with the Cobras managing just two behinds, their only scores for the match.
By half-time the Eagles had had kicked 13 goals and led by 80-points.
It was more of the same in the second half, with Yarraville scoring 15 more goals.
Scott Krakouer was in fine form, he kicked eight goals for the home side. Jack Hargreaves continued his rich vein of form from scoring four goals, while Mathew Reiffel also bagging four goals.
North Footscray edged out Manor Lakes at Hansen Reserve, winning by 15-points.
The Devils had a 19-point lead by half-time. Manor Lakes fought back in the second half, but was unable to bridge the gap, losing 9.9. (63) to 7.6. (48).
Matt Walsh starred for North Footscray, he kicked five goals.
Meanwhile at the Shorten Reserve, Newport Power picked up their first win of the season by beating West Footscray by 47-points.
It was a dominant first half by the visitors, they kept West Footscray goalless and piled on eight goals of their own.
West Footscray fought back in the third quarter, kicking seven goals to five, but the damage had already been done.
The final score was 13.16. (94) to 7.5. (47).
