DESPITE a gallant performance by Caroline Springs, the team couldn’t score a victory in their first match of the Senior Women’s season, losing by 14-points to VU Western Spurs at Henry Turner Reserve.
The Lakers and the Spurs each kicked two goals in the first quarter, with Anthea Stathakis playing a starring role for the visitors.
In the second term, the Spurs added another two goals and kept the Lakers scoreless.
Ultimately this was enough to win the match, with the Spurs kicking two points in the second half and the Lakers kicking three points.
The final score was 4.5. (29) to 2.3. (15).
Sarah Osborne was named best on ground for the Spurs. Ash Stafford was Caroline Springs’ best player.
Tarneit also suffered its second consecutive loss, losing to Craigieburn by 69-points at Wootten Road Reserve.
Georgia Andriske kicked the Titans only goal for the match while Alyce Egan battled hard across the four quarters.
For Craigieburn, Emma Dowsett and Rachel Martin were the main targets up forward, kicking two goals apiece.
Glen Orden couldn’t back up their Round 1 win, losing to Sunbury by 56-points at Clarke Oval. Simone Craige was the best player on the ground.
In other matches, Glenroy defeated Roxburgh Park. The final score was 11.19. (85) to 1.3. (9). Keilor also scored an impressive victory over Pascoe Vale, winning by 127-points. Manor Lakes had the bye.
Round 3 will kick-off on Friday night under lights at Town Centre Oval, with Caroline Springs taking on Tarneit at 7.30pm. Both teams are searching for their first win of the season, so it should be an exciting game of footy.
Glen Orden will host Roxburgh Park at Heatherdale Oval on Sunday. Kick-off is at 2pm.
Keilor will take on Manor Lakes at Keilor Reserve, Craigieburn will verse Sunbury and Glenroy will go head-to-head with Pascoe Vale.
VU Western Spurs have the bye.
