ROUND 3 saw an early contender for game of the year between Altona and Werribee Districts with the Vikings victorious by 14-points.
The top-four clash lived up to the hype, with Altona coach Chris Goetz saying versatility and fitness played a key part in his teams tough win.
A skilful start for both sides gave a taste of what was to come despite the amount of pressure displayed. Altona got rolling in the latter stages of the first quarter slamming home four goals in seven minutes to lead 5.3. (33) to 1.1. (7) at quarter time.
Both sides split control of the play in the second quarter as they each moved the ball from end to end at rapid pace. It took 16 minutes for the first goal of the quarter to be kicked via Werribee's Liam Wockner, but Lachlan Fox responded for the home side to see them up by 23- points at the main break.
Werribee started the third term like a house on fire kicking four goals in eight minutes to tie the scores at 40 apiece before an epic deadlock took place for the rest of the quarter.
An enthralling final term saw Altona kick three of the first four goals, but Werribee kept coming.
Madding Atem's set shot from 45 metres brought the game back to nine-points with a few minutes remaining, but Altona held firm in a terrific game of footy.
Altona's Matthew Wright and Jack Robinson were outstanding as was Joel Menadue with his contested marking a highlight.
For Werribee, Daniel Dahl, Joshua Snow and Blake Taylor were strong throughout the four quarters.
Other results for the round had Hoppers Crossing bounce back with a 21-point win over Caroline Springs, the Wyndham Suns defeated Albanvale 36.25. (241) to 0.0. (0) with Thomas Duxson kicking 16 goals.
Yarraville recorded a 138-point win over St Albans, whilst Albion secured a 22-point win over Spotswood. Lastly Newport Power scored a win over Sanctuary Lakes as the Sharks forfeited the match.
Round 4 will see Werribee Districts verse Caroline Springs, Yarraville Seddon Eagles up against Newport and Sanctuary Lakes playing Altona.
Hoppers Crossing will look to make it two wins in a row when they verse St Albans.
The Wyndham Suns face Albion and Spotswood host Wyndhamvale. Albanvale have the bye.
