GIRLS footy will be front and centre in the Western Region Football League next season and over the next few weeks we will be profiling all the clubs who will be fielding teams in our standalone competition.
Today, we get to learn more about the Werribee Centrals Football Club…
Werribee Centrals president Justin Fletcher says responses from their community to the announcement of the WRFL’s standalone girls’ competition has been overwhelmingly positive.
He said the entire club was excited about 2017 and the prospect of fielding girls teams for the first time.
“Family clubs like ours can now expand to the entire family instead of just the boys,” Justin said.
“We have had some great responses from parents around the club already with a number of siblings already signed up.
“The girls that play in the boy’s competition tend to hesitate a little and same with the boys.
“Now that the girls are playing at their own level, their skills and competition will improve immensely.”
Justin said the great response from the community meant they were confident of fielding several girls’ teams next year.
“We have had a fantastic response, better than we thought we would,” he admits.
“At this stage, we will definitely field one if not two Under-12 and Under-15 teams in 2017 and not far away from hopefully fielding an Under-18 team.
“We have a sub-committee just focusing on girl’s football and they have worked extremely hard to get to where we are.”
On November 29 the club will be hosting a light training session and a meet and greet. Anyone interested in attending or wants more information should email enquiries@werribeecentralsjuniorfc.com.au with their contact information and date of birth.
