THE reigning premiers Deer Park will be putting their feet up this week before gearing up for a big two week season finale, then another finals campaign.
At the moment it looks like it might be a history making one.
Their 10 goal demolition of another flag contender in Altona last week, is evidence of the hunger and desire this group has to make it four in a row.
There were times, early in the season, when they looked a shadow of their former glory, but that is not the case right now.
The competition for spots in the side is another motivating factor for the entire Deer Park playing list.
While the Lions rest the others slug it out, with the St. Albans v Werribee Districts game the one to watch this weekend.
Districts should be refreshed after the bye, while the Saints beat Albion easily, it was a slippery day at the office, and the injury to Daniel McKerracher is a blow.
The equation for the fifth placed Saints is pretty easy, win the remaining two games and hope Spotswood drop two of their last three.
The equation is easy, the execution is much harder.
Kings Park gives the Saints a small advantage and they will need it to stop the Districts. It’s do or die and I think the Saints can do it.
Spotswood on the other hand might be in trouble after just falling over the line last week at Wyndhamvale.
Their lack of scoring in recent weeks particularly is a major concern. It is hard to see where their goals are going to come from.
Sunshine has nothing but pride on the line again. Even though it is at the Woodsmen’s home ground, I think the Kangaroos will get the job done and salvage some late season glory.
Altona has been up and down all year with their inconsistency their major problem. They have struggled to kick big scores, but I don’t think they will need one to get the points this week against Wyndhamvale.
The Falcons went perilously close last week and from all reports probably should have won. I think that might have been their last gasp for 2016.
Hoppers Crossing got the win against Sunshine at Sunshine, a ground they have not had a good history at, which is what good teams do. The Warriors will be too good for Albion, who is now looking to 2017.
There are some big changes coming at the Cattery and they have shown this year they have the foundations to build on, with a lot of very exciting young players who have graduated from their juniors.
Another interesting and intriguing round on the way, no doubt with a few surprises.
