The top of the table clash between Werribee Districts and Deer Park lived up to expectations as both teams battled it out for a nail-biting draw at Soldiers Reserve.
Deer Park took control of the game early with the first two goals and kept the ball in their forward half for large periods of time, but the Tigers were efficient going forward and only trailed by two-points at quarter-time.
The Lions started the second quarter with a four goal burst, but Werribee Districts snagged two goals late to keep the margin to 14-points at half-time.
Werribee Districts worked their way into the game and kept the ball in their half in the third term, but couldn’t reduce the margin as Deer Park held a 14-point lead going into the final term.
The Tigers came out after the three quarter time break with four unanswered goals and looked to be claiming yet another fourth quarter come from behind win, but a pair of late goals from Joshua Schembri and Jye King levelled the scores and gave us the season’s first draw.
Jack Tessari and Brandyn Di Sisto starred for Werribee Districts while Aaron Law kicked another three goals for the Tigers.
Joshua Schembri had a great day for Deer Park, finishing with three goals while Rusiate Komaitai also kicked three.
Hoppers Crossing had another big win, beating Yarraville Seddon by 55-points at Hogans Road Reserve.
The Warriors dominated the game from start to finish and were very strong defensively, limiting Yarraville Seddon to just two goals and seven scoring shots for the game.
Paul Tomelty and Brayden Kitchen both kicked two goals each for Hoppers Crossing while Thomas Piccolo and Nicholas Tsaloukis were the Eagles’ only goal scorers.
Spotswood claimed their third win of the season with a 14-point upset over Altona.
The Woodsmen took the early lead in the first quarter and were able to restrict Altona to just six goals before three quarter time, giving them enough of a lead to hold off a fast finishing Vikings side.
Stephen Syme was best on ground, while Charles Bettiol kicked three goals and Tyron Bennett kicked two for Spotswood. Joel Menadue was Altona’s best and finished with three goals.
Round 15 sees Spotswood looking to make up for their 97-point loss last time the teams met when they travel to Hogans Road Reserve to take on Hoppers Crossing.
Deer Park host Altona at John McLeod Reserve and Werribee Districts play Yarraville Seddon at Yarraville Oval.
