AFTER a disappointing match against Newport Power in Round 3, Parkside came out with a point to prove at the weekend when they faced-off at Henry Turner Reserve at the weekend.
Fired up from the first bounce, the Magpies kicked four goals to two in the first quarter to open up a handy lead at quarter time.
However it was their forward pressure and fierce defensive attitude in the second quarter which ultimately gave them the advantage.
Parkside kicked four goals to zero in the second term and went into the half-time break leading by 38-points.
It was a tight tussle in the third term, but like the second quarter, the fourth quarter all about the home side.
The Magpies kicked seven goals to four in the second term, with Matthew Shepperbottom leading the way with five goals next to his name.
Josh Shaw and captain John Eastoe were among the best on ground.
Newport’s afternoon went from bad to worse when playing coach Mark Williams injured his foot during the match.
The Power will have to rue their chances for a week as they have the bye in Round 13, they will be aiming to bounce back from the disappointing loss the following week, when they take on Sanctuary Lakes.
Sunshine Heights had a narrow escape against Laverton at Ainsworth Reserve.
The Dragons led for most of the match, but a late comeback by Laverton made Robert Greto and his team a little nervous in the dying stages of the match. However to their credit they were able to hold on to win by six-points.
Greto kicked two goals, while Justin Zahara also booted two goals for the Dragons.
Laverton’s Anthony Hanna was the game’s leading goal kicker, he kicked four goals for the match.
It was Sunshine Height’s sixth win of the season, keeping their finals hopes well and truly alive. They take on the Wyndham Suns at Goddard Street Reserve next.
A 17 to six-goal second half was what helped the Wyndham Suns to its fifth win of 2016.
The Suns were down by a point at half-time, but a rev-up from coach Brett Cook at the change fired up his team, who went on to score an emphatic 62-point victory.
In the final match of the round, Sanctuary Lakes won a nail-biter against Tarneit.
The Sharks held a 17-point lead at three-quarter-time and looked certain to celebrate another home ground win, but a determined Tarneit outfit stormed home.
The Titans kicked three goals to one in the final term, but it wasn’t enough, with Sanctuary Lakes holding on to win by two points.
