NEWPORT Power and Parkside, the top two sides in Division 3 will go head-to-head today.
The Power, in its inaugural season, have so far been the standout team of 2016.
Led by former Hawthorn premiership player, Mark Williams, Newport has gone from strength to strength, winning nine out of 10 games. Their only loss was in Round 1.
Parkside have also had a consistent season under coach Nick Condos. The team looks revitalised and ready to take the next step.
However, if they are to have any impact on finals they have to defeat the Power.
The last time the two met Newport dominated the match, winning by 98-points at Bryan Martyn Oval.
Condos and his men have improved significantly since the Round 3 match and will be determined to turn the tables on the ladder-leaders when they square-off at Henry Turner Reserve.
The two teams will head into the match full of confidence after celebrating big wins in Round 11.
Newport defeated Braybrook by 89-points at Pennell Reserve.
The team came out firing in the opening quarter, kicking eight goals to two, and never looked back.
Mouhamed El Hassan was the star forward for Newport, he kicked 11 goals.
It was a similar story for Parkside, who took on Sunshine Heights at Ainsworth Reserve, with the Magpies also winning comfortably.
The margin was 78-points, but it could have been much bigger if the visitors kicked truly. Parkside had 32 shots on goal compared to Sunshine Heights’ 14.
Adrian Gervasi booted six goals, while Drew Vincent was named best on ground.
In other results, Laverton scored its first win of the season.
The Magpies came back from 19-points down at half-time to defeat North Sunshine at Laverton Park.
North Sunshine led in the first-half and looked likely to get its third win of the season, but a determined Laverton outfit came out firing after half-time.
Laverton kicked eight goals to two in the second half to win by 21-points.
Richard Mulroy kicked five goals for the home side. Anthony Hanna also chipped in with three goals of his own.
Meanwhile for the North Sunshine, Anthony Fawcus continued his impressive season in-front of goal, kicking six.
Laverton will be aiming for back-to-back wins when they take on Sunshine Heights, while North Sunshine will play the Wyndham Suns at Dempster Park.
In the final match of the round, Rhys Kirk played a starring role in the Suns’ win over Sanctuary Lakes.
Kirk kicked seven goals in the 32-point win.
