DOWN at Hogans Road they are looking for Plan B after last weekend’s master class from Deer Park showed the Warriors they are still a long way from the reigning premiers.
Deer Park started like men on a mission and no doubt that mission was to put the ladder-leaders in their place. Mission accomplished.
Some clever coaching moves by Marc Bullen and the sheer class of most of the Deer Park players meant Hoppers were well behind the eight ball from the start, and never looked like making a serious challenge.
Deer Park had winners all over the ground and Hoppers were found wanting.
They won’t meet again till the finals and Steve Kretiuk knows he has a lot of work to do between now and then.
Deer Park will be seeking revenge this week against Albion who defeated them back in round 3.
The Cats are coming off an impressive win over Sunshine and will want to show it was no fluke.
I can’t see Deer Park dropping this one and after my promise on the WRFL website preview, I certainly hope they don’t.
Hoppers are at home to Spotswood and both sides will be desperate to return to the winners list. It has been a few very tough weeks for the Woodsmen, but they now have to put that behind them and try and secure a finals spot.
That looked a lay down certainty a few weeks back, but every loss now gives the chasers a real chance.
One of those chasers is the team that beat them at the weekend, St. Albans.
The Saints are a better team than their ladder position says, and they have six games to show it to themselves and their supporters.
While they are still a long shot to make the five, they are a roughie with a real chance. That chance may depend heavily on the result of this week’s game against Altona.
The Vikings won the earlier encounter by 17-points, but a lot has changed since then.
Before the bye Altona had won four of its past five games. One of those wins was over Deer Park, but despite that, I don’t rate the boys from Grants Reserve as a real contender yet.
The next four games will sort them out one way or the other. I am on the Saints for this important clash.
Sunshine came up short again last week and that trend will continue this week when they head to Soldiers Reserve to face Werribee Districts.
This time of year should bring some surprise results, I certainly hope so.
