HOPPERS Crossing snapped their two game losing streak with a 19-point win over Altona at Hogans Road Reserve.
The Warriors got off to an early lead in a tightly contested first quarter, with their clean kicking around the ground giving them a 13-point lead at quarter time.
Altona looked to be gaining the momentum late in the second quarter when they kicked the last two goals and dragged the margin back to 10-points at half-time, but poor kicking meant that they could only manage three behinds in the third term as Hoppers Crossing took a 27-point lead into the last quarter.
Hoppers Crossing would have been worried about being overrun in the final quarter again, but they were able to hold on this time for a 19-point win.
Riley Buckley was the Warriors’ best while Brayden Kitchen and Riley Kitchen both kicked two goals. Matthew Wright was the standout for Altona, kicking three of the Vikings’ five goals.
Spotswood upset ladder leaders Werribee Districts by eight points at Soldiers Reserve.
Werribee Districts struggled with accuracy throughout the game, kicking one goal and eight behinds in the first quarter to lead by four points at quarter time.
A big second quarter saw Spotswood take the lead at half-time, before Werribee Districts were able to regain the lead in the third quarter.
Despite trailing by six points at three quarter time, Spotswood were able to restrict the Tigers to just one point in the last quarter and finished with an eight point win.
Stephen Syme was Spotswood’s best on the day while Jaii Bunting, Thomas Barnes and Darcy Wilson all kicked two goals for the winners. Aaron Law was the Tiger’s only multiple goal kicker with three.
Deer Park ended Yarraville Seddon’s winning streak with a comfortable 42-point win at John McLeod Oval.
The Eagles got off to a strong start and led by 10-points at quarter time, but Deer Park were able to take the momentum and the win with a 12 goal to four run over the final three quarters.
Kane Testa kicked five goals for the Lions in a best on ground performance while Joshua Schembri and Nicholas Christofi added three goals each.
Ben Wagland was Yarraville Seddon’s best and Liam Murray, Blake Green and Ryan Tyson all kicked two goals for the Eagles.
Round 10 sees Werribee Districts aiming to maintain top spot on the ladder when they host Altona at Soldiers Reserve. Spotswood travel to John McLeod Reserve to take on Deer Park and Yarraville Seddon plays Hoppers Crossing at Yarraville Oval.
