ROUND 2 and 3 of the 2016 AFL Victoria Metro Junior Championships will take place over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
Some of the WRFL’s rising stars will go head-to-head with the best youngsters from across metropolitan Melbourne.
The aim of the championships is to give players the chance to test their skills and get experience playing footy at a higher level than their usual club level football.
JUNIOR INTERLEAGUE FIXTURE
This year, the WRFL has eight representative teams, an Under-16 team, two Under-15, two Under-14, two Under-13 and a combined Youth Girls team with the Essendon District Football League.
As a result of last year’s competition, the WRFL was promoted to Division 1 of the competition and will take on Yarra Junior Football League, the South Metro Junior Football League and the Eastern Football League.
Round 1 kicked off on June 1, with games played under lights. Despite their best efforts all of the WRFL’s teams suffered defeats in the opening round.
ROUND 1 JUNIOR INTERLEAGUE RESULTS
On the senior side, Division 1 is the only competition in action this weekend, with Division 2 and Division 3 teams having the general bye.
Sunshine will take on Wyndhamvale, Albion will go head-to-head with Altona at JR Parsons Reserve.
Werribee Districts will play Spotswood at Soldiers Reserve and reigning premiers Deer Park will take on St Albans.
