HOBSON’S Bay Council Deputy Mayor Sandra Wilson has joined the Board of the Western Region Football League.
The avid football and Western Bulldogs fan joins the league after a reshuffle of Board positions resulting from President Bruce Mildenhall’s extended leave of absence overseas.
Cr Wilson has worked as a consultant in workplace diversity issues including equal opportunity, bullying and flexible work practices and has also had experience working with volunteers.
Cr Wilson said she was looking forward to getting involved with the WRFL community.
“I am a lover of football and an advocate for volunteers in sport, so I am really keen to influence the culture and growth of football in the region,” she said.
Cr Wilson is now the third female on the WRFL board, she joins Acting President Meredith Angwin and Director Gina Smith.
Cr Wilson, who has also served as Mayor of the Hobson’s Bay Council and as Registrar of Altona Juniors Football Club, said one of her focuses was to make football accessible to people of all ages and abilities in Melbourne’s west.
“I really value the league across the western region and I am a huge lover of football, so I want to continue to grow the game and make it accessible to different groups,” she said.
“Also any influence I can have on women’s participation and driving some change in that area I am happy to do.
“I want to see more women in leadership roles across community sporting organisations.”
