YARRAVILLE Seddon won their first game of the season, beating Altona by one point in a thrilling game at Yarraville Oval.
Altona got off to a quick start with Suren Bowala kicking the first two goals for the Vikings before Yarraville Seddon were able to work their way into the game and kick two of their own to lead by three points at quarter time.
Both teams struggled to take a mark inside the forward fifty during the second quarter and could only add one goal apiece as the Eagles maintained their three point lead at half time.
As the rain started to fall heavily in the third term, both teams surprisingly found it easier to score.
Despite both teams having kicked only three goals each to half time, Altona kicked four goals to the Eagles’ three in the third quarter to take a one point lead.
The game became scrappy in the last quarter with a lot of stoppages as both teams tried to get the win.
Yarraville Seddon took the lead about half-way through the term after Kyle Blake got a free kick directly in front and kicked the goal.
Altona brought the margin back to one point with just three minutes to go after a goal from Jesse Zammit, but the Eagles were able to hold on for their first win of 2016.
Lachy Huell was everywhere for Yarraville Seddon and finished with a goal while Mason Jacob kicked two.
Suren Bowala, Jack Papachatzakis and Connor Brien all kicked two for the Vikings and Wiebren Fong played well in the back line.
Deer Park also took home a narrow win, beating Hoppers Crossing by four points at John McLeod Reserve.
In a game that was close from start to finish, Hoppers Crossing took the early lead with a three goal to two first term and led by two points at half-time.
Deer Park took the lead in the third term and were able to hold on for the win despite Hoppers Crossing kicking two goals to one in the last quarter.
Nicholas Chrisofi was the Lions’ leading goal kicker with three while Joshua Bistisi-Nguyen was good and finished with two goals. Brayden Kitchen was the Warrior’s best with five goals.
Both Spotswood and Werribee Districts had the bye.
Round 8 sees a top of the ladder clash between Hoppers Crossing and Werribee Districts at Hogans Road Reserve.
Yarraville Seddon will be looking for their second win when they travel to McLean Reserve to play Spotswood and Altona will face Deer Park at Grant Reserve.
