ROUND 5 was interesting for a number of reasons and I think it did answer a lot of questions.
Wyndhamvale is a terrific club and has a great coaching staff and a good club culture, but now it knows how far it has to jump to be competitive in Division One.
I don’t think they were under any illusions, but the harsh realities may have now sunk in.
This week they face Spotswood who will once again be very tough.
Spotswood accounted for Altona, but it seems the Woodsmen are struggling to kick a big score and might welcome that opportunity against the Falcons.
That is the Falcons challenge, to keep them to a low score.
St. Albans face Albion and to say both need a win is a massive understatement. You could almost write off the loser for the season.
Altona host Deer Park and I don’t think it will be a pleasant experience as the Vikings are on Struggle Street, and I can’t see a way out for them at the moment.
They have one of the most talented lists in the competition, but don’t seem to be able to put it together on the most important day of the week, Saturday.
The Hoppers Crossing v Sunshine clash looms as a beauty.
Two sides eyeing off a finals berth, and looking to make a statement not only to their immediate opponents, but to the competition.
The Warriors are going well, despite not having the services of Barry Priest Medallist Wayde Skipper and that may be their lot for the season.
Sunshine on the other hand have veteran Tom Millar back in the ruck and going well, plus some very exciting new names not known to WRFL people.
My winners this week are Hoppers Crossing, Spotswood, Deer Park and in the closest game of the weekend I will go for the Saints, but only because they are at home.
Don’t forget the Interleague games at Whitten Oval on Saturday May 21, with the under 19’s at 11.45am and the seniors at 2.30pm.
