HOPPERS Crossing bounced back from their first loss of the season with a strong win over Spotswood at McLean Reserve.
The Warriors started the match with a flurry, keeping Spotswood scoreless, while kicking six goals of their own to take a 41-point lead into the first break.
The game became more competitive and physical after quarter time, but the Woodsmen were unable to make up for the poor first term and were 47-points down at half-time.
Spotswood limited the Warriors to just three goals after half time while kicking five themselves, but it wasn’t enough as Hoppers Crossing won by 41-points.
Nathan Williams kicked three goals in a best on ground performance for the Warriors while Daniel Tiricola also kicked three. Rhys Keegan was strong through the midfield.
Grant Williams got a lot of the ball for Spotswood and both Darcy Williams and Riley Carr kicked two goals for the home team.
Deer Park also scored a big win, beating Yarraville Seddon by 65-points at John McLeod Oval.
The Eagles were looking to get their first win of 2016 and took a 20-point lead into the first break after a four goal to one quarter.
From then on it was all Deer Park as they kicked 17 goals to four over the remaining three quarters to take home the big win.
Mark Galea kicked five goals and Brody Psaila snagged three for the Lions while Blake Green kicked three for the Eagles.
The final match of the round saw Werribee Districts give Altona their first defeat of the year at Grant Reserve.
The Tigers started strong and lead by 21-points at quarter time before Altona were able to level the game at half-time.
However, Werribee Districts kicked nine goals to four after the main break to win by 32-points.
Aaron Law and Daniel Kerruish combined for 11 of the Tigers’ 13 goals, kicking seven and four respectively.
Mitchell Dean was Altona’s best on the day finishing with two goals while Lachlan Fox also kicked three for the Vikings.
Round 4 will see Deer Park aiming to avenge their Round 1 loss to Spotswood when they take on the Woodsmen at John McLeod Oval.
Altona will be looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they travel to Hogans Road Oval to face Hoppers Crossing, who now sit on top of the ladder.
Yarraville Seddon will hope to pick up their first win of the season when they play Werribee Districts at Soldiers Reserve.
